It’s always exciting when we install our grass at a famous location.

It was with great pleasure that we were asked to improve the grounds at the Royal Pavilion Brighton, once home to King George IV and designed by legendary architect John Nash.

The distinctive exotic structure is a landmark in the Brighton area, and does not fail to attract the attention of all who visit or pass it.

Before:

Trulawn came in to improve the southern entrance to the grounds known as the India Gate.

As you can see the grounds were clumpy in some areas, and patchy in others. This is down to a combination of problems such as heavy traffic, and being in the shadow of the buildings.

Main areas to think about:

Funding

Projects like these take time to organise when there is public or government funding involved. Brighton and Hove Council contacted us with a general inquiry way back in 2015, with the proposal carefully honed and assessed over the year to a size and amount that was suitable for their budget.

Public area

As the grounds are a popular spot for Brighton residents as well as a notable tourist attraction there is a heavy amount of traffic that travels through the grounds, hence the need for artificial grass in the first place. Our grass was chosen because it is highly durable and has a short and tidy finish.

Safety

Where there is work taking place it is important that the public are not put at risk whilst the job is being completed. The safe option here is to make sure the area is enclosed, such as through the use of harris fencing. This blocks off access to those un-qualified to be there.

Aesthetic recommendation

We recommended Trulawn Continental because the natural plant life around the grass and pathways has an earthy, wild look to it. Trulawn Continental has a dark brown root zone alongside a tan thatch which compliments this.

After:

Overall this was a 164m² area installation which is by no means a small job. We have plenty of experience installing at this size and much bigger.

We dressed the area with some extra silica sand on the top to allow for regular traffic. Normally this isn’t necessary for a typical installation but as this will have a lot of people using it, it can help add an extra level of durability.
