Lots of people choose to have part or all of their wedding outside during the summer. The sun is shining, the trees are green and guests are dressed in their summer best. Whether at home or at a venue there are a fair few things to think about when organising an outdoor wedding. Here are a few novel ideas to make your garden wedding that bit extra special…

Flip flops for guests

Have a bucket of flip flops ready for when your guests want to take their shoes off. It will be a relief for those wearing heels, and for those wearing socks as there is nothing worse than sweaty feet! But if you are keen on wearing high heels ( or are worried about what they might smell like!) at least with artificial grass you won’t be sinking into any mud!

Camping lanterns under tablecloths

This is a good way of creating a bit of atmosphere as the light starts to go. The effect works better under lots of smaller tables, and will look different depending on the colour of the cloth. Another alternative would be to bundle some battery powered fairy lights inside a large glass jar. They make pretty table settings when the sun goes down, and are less dangerous than an open flame!

Cupcake wrapper to cover drinks

This is a fantastic little tip for keeping bees and insects away from your drinks. If you’ve got long tall beakers, or champagne glasses just pop a cupcake wrapper over the glass and it will rest on top as a guard against unwanted creatures.

Borrow furniture for a quirky mismatched look

If you’re trying to save money on furniture see if you can borrow any from your friends and family. It’ll give your wedding a quirky hipster vibe, and you can spend the cash you save on plying your guests with drinks. Remember heavy objects might flatten artificial grass temporarily but give it a brush afterwards and it’ll look right again (unlike natural grass!)

Instant camera snaps

Whilst it’s common to put disposable cameras on tables, you could also do the same with instants. They’re pricier than disposable camera but they are a good way to create instant favours or tokens for your guests to take home.

Have some games ready

If you’re waiting on food to be prepared, make sure you’ve got some games ready to be played. Go with the outdoor theme and have some vintage lawn games available, they’re especially fun after a few drinks. We’ve got a great guide to some of the more traditional games here.

Fake flowers

Natural flowers can be temperamental in the weather, there’s no guarantee that they’ll be looking good on your big day as part of your garden or even as part of your bouquet. It might be a good idea to consider using fake flowers. Just like our artificial grass there are some extremely realistic looking flowers out there, which will look entirely natural in your wedding pictures. You’ll also get profuse thank yous from any hay fever sufferers in your wedding party!

Top Tips!

If you’ve got artificial grass be aware that you may not be able to pin or peg down tents and marquees. As it’s similar to an outdoor carpet, punching a peg could create an irreparable hole.
