Fake lawns are so much less work then the real stuff, but anyone who tells you they’re zero maintenance is a telling fibs! They need just a little bit of love every now and again to keep them looking fresh. Here are a few small things you can do to prolong the life of your lawn and make sure your Trulawn continues to look and feel amazing.

Brush it

If you really want your lawn to continue to look tip-top then you should make sure you reserve a bit of time every month to give it a brush. Whilst the grass will have a ‘bounce-back’ ability all on its own, giving it a brush can rejuvenate the pile so that it continues to look fresh. A stiff brush from the garden centre should do the trick!

Sweep it

If you’ve got overhanging trees or plants that release a lot of seeds it’s a good idea to keep an eye on the plant matter that drops onto the lawn, and brush it away if it looks like it’s building up. Not only is it untidy but it can affect the ability for your lawn to drain water if there’s a huge wodge of leaves on top, not to mention encourage seeds to grow in the moisture. Double it up with your brush and you’re killing two birds with one stone!

And… if you’re wondering what about weeds growing underneath the lawn – we always install our lawns with a layer of weed membrane to discourage weeds from growing up under the backing.

Free it

If you’ve got heavy objects resting on your fake lawn, move them around every now and again. Prolonged compaction won’t damage the grass but it might hinder the ‘bounce-back’ ability of the blades if you never give it a chance to stand vertical.

Clean it

Artificial grass is great for pet owners, because it won’t discolour with use and won’t turn muddy with little paws running around on it. Whilst its powers are impressive, it doesn’t make pet mess magically disappear! Make sure you clean up after your pets with warm soapy water, especially if you plan on using it for recreation.

And…Rainfall helps dissipate the odor particles away from the surface of the grass so when there is no rain, this can be aided with extra use of the hose and a more regular rinse.

& Be wise

If you’ve got a fake lawn then you should be well aware that it’s made of plastic! Always be careful if you’re using a barbecue close by or smoke cigarettes on your lawn. Extreme heat will melt the grass and can be difficult to repair.

I hope you find these tips useful for looking after your lawn! Fake lawns don’t require much to look good, all you really need is a good strong brush! So ditch the lawnmower, stop buying the lawn seed and take the landfill off your sat nav. Give your fake lawn a little bit of care and attention and you can enjoy it all year round.
