Lots of people install an artificial lawn because it means they can use their garden more often. It’s a great alternative for lawns that struggle to grow in the shade or experience problems with drainage. There are quite a few benefits to having an artificial lawn, more free time, lower maintenance costs as well as having an area that can be used all year round. Being outside has its own benefits, have a read and find out more…

Fresh Air

There have been many studies that have connected fresh air with a feeling of wellbeing. Some medical journals claim that being outside can improve your immune system by increasing the number of natural killer cells in your body that fight off infections. Smells of the outdoors can also calm you down, with certain flowers found to reduce anxiety levels (this is the basis of aromatherapy). Anthropologists claim we like the smell of the air after a downpour because of a kind of cultural imprint of associating rain with growth. If you’re feeling stressed you can enjoy your lawn whenever you want, there’s no off-day for fake grass.

Exercise

The NHS recommend you do around 150 minutes of exercise a week, with a target of 10,000 steps a day to stay healthy. Most people average around 4000 steps, with some people who work long hours in offices unable to do even that. Combining it with another activity can take out some of the monotony – by playing games with kids or pets you may not even realise how many steps you can take. This is made much easier when your fake lawn can be used all year round, and there’s no chance of it getting muddy.

Sunlight

A lack of vitamin D can cause bones to become soft and weak, and the greatest source of vitamin D is from contact between direct sunlight and our skin. Between November and March the sunlight hasn’t got enough UVB radiation in it for us to produce vitamin D so we rely on the stores we have made during the rest of the year. Having a lawn fit for use all year round can really help you make the most of the summer months when it is important to replenish those vitamin D stores. Just be careful not to let yourself get burnt.
