Trulawn went along to the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show to find out the latest in gardening trends. The Flower Show, as the name suggests is full of flowers. From the Plant Village, to the Floral Design Studio to the Festival of Roses, flowers are all over the place. One of the overwhelming themes in flower variety this year was the colour purple.

Flowers go through fashions just like clothes, where one year it could be white covering your garden the next it could be blue. Some flowers are always in fashion as seen by a whole marquee devoted to roses, but even these come in a variety of colours. Purple was particularly present this year, despite not being featured especially strongly in the variety of show gardens.

Lots of people choose to install artificial grass as part of a greater overhaul of their garden, with flower beds defined in order to fill in with plants later. If you want your overall garden to be as fuss free as your grass it is a good idea not to choose colours that will go out of fashion quickly. Purple is a colour that is not as striking as red or yellow, nor as soft as white, pink or green but a good balance of subtle and interesting. If you don’t want to create work for yourself (and we’re all about using time for relaxation) purple does not often have to be updated leaving you free to chill!
