You can get all sorts of artificial grass products on the internet at incredibly cheap prices. Most of these are poor quality and not made to last longer than a few years. When it comes to selling an installation, a lot of customers can be shocked when they learn the price of fitting a lawn because they have no idea what it involves. This puts a surveyor or salesperson in the difficult position of both educating and selling at the same time. So how do you explain how much a good job is worth?

Dispel the idea that all grass is the same

There are cheap products out there, but why are they so cheap? What is the stitch rate? How far apart are the draining holes? Is there a coating on the backing? It may be that the customer has no idea why these are points to consider and if so then this is a really good opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and experience. Superior products will make a big difference to the life of a lawn, and longevity is one of the main benefits of the product in the first place.

Prove you’re the best

Rather than trying to price match downwards, you want to elevate upwards towards higher standards. Is there something you offer that others don’t? How do you provide a better service? What is it about your company that is consistently reliable? A company has to be able to justify the prices they put forward, and show that they are equipped to carry out the job. Past examples of work are a good indication of professionalism, and show a customer they don’t just have to take the company’s word on their skills.

Price is and isn’t everything

Obviously this is one of the main, if not the main factor when considering artificial grass installation, and which company to choose. Sometimes either the company or the customer will not budge on price, and that might mean that one will have to walk away from the sale. It’s not really in the best interest of either party to chase a bargain, because it devalues the work being carried out. Then again, knowledge, quality and experience does often win out against price because it is a more reliable purchase for the future.

The principals of installing artificial grass can appear basic but there are many ways to do it incorrectly. We’ve come to correct a fair few ‘cowboy’ installations in our time, believe us! As long as standards are kept high, quality products are used and knowledge and expertise are part of the service there’s no reason why a good job is worth any less than its actual value.
