When finishing an installation, it’s a good idea to let your customer know how best to take care of their brand new lawn. Whilst it’s low maintenance, it’s not maintenance free (though they should be aware of this from the start). Here’s a list of some of the most common pieces of advice we offer to our customers:
What does the warranty cover?
The product warranty covers against UV fading and rot or degradation for 10 years. This doesn’t cover accidental damage so the customer should avoid using barbecues/fireworks/cigarettes around the lawn. The plastic will melt!
Weed growth
A weed membrane should prevent weeds coming up from the bottom of the lawn. But might not stop weeds growing on the top. Weeds love moisture and any plant debris that may fall on the lawn can provide a nice bed to grow in. Sweep the lawn at least once a month to get rid of excess leaves and debris to discourage this from happening.
Picking up after pets
Pets should be cleaned up after as soon as possible. Whilst liquids will drain through the backing holes, pet mess should be picked up and disposed of as it will not decay into the ground. Warm soapy water (washing up liquid, disinfectant) will sanitise the area effectively, with more attention needed during dry periods. The same should be noted for areas used by a high number of animals.
Heavy objects
Move garden furniture or a trampoline slightly every few months to allow the grass to bounce back. But avoid parking cars or motorbikes because this could cause compaction.
Other garden maintenance
Remind your customer that if they are going to paint their fence, shed or decking then it’s a good idea to cover any areas where grass may get splashed. It’s not always guaranteed that the paint will be washable.
