St Alphege CE Infant School, Whitstable

It’s important to have an area in a school where the children can play but it isn’t always feasible to have a grassed area, either because there isn’t enough space or because the maintenance would be too high. Rather than turn an area into concrete, artificial grass is a great alternative. It looks like grass, is super durable and is softer to play on. And one of the wonderful things about it is that you can lay it over existing surfaces like concrete, transforming playgrounds into something completely different.

This infants school in Whitstable chose to update their grounds with Trulawn Luxury grass and the Trulawn team laid over 450m² of grass! Most of these areas are ‘lay only’ which means they already have a base on which the grass can be laid, but there was also a section that had a traditional ‘dig out’ where we excavated an area and added a sub-base. Any areas where there was a potential trip hazard also had a rubber gradient edging added to ease transition between areas.
