Defining edges and eliminating mud

This garden in Teddington had quite a dramatic transformation with the installation of Trulawn Supreme. As you can see, it wasn’t so much a garden as a mud pit, with ivy growing all the way down the walls and onto the floor below! This required a fair bit of clearing, stripping back the ivy until the team could meet the brick wall, as well as excavating it so that it was level with the rest of the ground surface. The perimeter was then edged with tanalised timber and a preliminary weed membrane was set down.

After this the layers of aggregate were laid down and compacted, and a thicker weed membrane was laid on top. This is made of a hardier material to make it more difficult for weeds to crop up, but it is also porous, and allows water to drain through. Then the grass was rolled out and pinned down.

In areas where there are overhanging plants that create shade, or the grass has a particularly weak covering, it can get very muddy. This is made even worse when it rains! By choosing artificial grass, the problem of mud goes away. The edges are also far more defined, and the clearing of the natural debris has made the garden seem much bigger.
