We live in an age when taking pictures is the norm, and has become incredibly easy*

Photos are useful to your business in a couple of ways, and you don’t have to break the bank to get started. While nothing can beat a professional photographer you can still do a pretty good job yourself with a high quality camera phone.

To use for marketing purposes

Having examples of your work is absolutely essential for marketing your business online and off, as it is one of the first things people look for when judging the competency of a company. One good picture can really pay dividends, and can be consistently reused in promotional items, on social media and on your website.

  • When taking pictures try and get a before image before you start work, then take a picture from the exact same spot when it is finished. This will really emphasise the transformation.
  • Remove any stray items that might ruin the shot; tools, hoses, rubbish, apparel all detract from the quality of the picture!
  • BUT If you need close up photos of your products then it is probably best you use a high resolution camera as many camera phones cannot capture something in micro detail very well.

As a record of the works completed

On a different note, taking photos is a good way of having a lasting reminder of the work completed on a job and can be added to the customer’s record. If a customer gets back in touch and you need a quick reminder of what their garden looks like, then a photo is a simple way to do so.

If there are also any disputes in the future on the quality of your work, you have photographic evidence of how it was finished. This is also true of any parts of the property that are damaged before you start work. Make sure whoever is installing goes round the exterior of the property with the owner to assess this before any works take place.

And that’s your top tip! See you next month for more!
