Harvey shares his views on family life and artificial grass for dogs.

Tell us a bit about yourself Harvey…

I’m a short legged (and very handsome!) Jack Russell in the prime of my life – at seven years old. You could describe me as a bit of family dog as I love spending time at home.

What’s home life like?

With the kids around it’s quite busy and I don’t get as much attention as I used to from my masters. Saying that, I’m quite fond of the little nippers and I often lick their faces to show them I care. There are also lots more tip bits lying around with the kids in the house and when they’re not looking I swipe their biscuits – rich teas are my favourites!

You have artificial grass in your garden, what’s that like?

Well my master installed artificial grass about five years ago now. To be honest it was a bit of a shock at first because I like to dig. I could dig the old grass no problem, happy days, but digging just doesn’t happen with the new grass so I’ve given up on the digging now. It’s a shame but you can’t live in the past.

On the upside it’s great for having a lie down on. It’s more comfortable and cushioned to rest on than the old grass. I’m not a spring chicken anymore so need to take the weight off from time to time.

How do you like to relax in the garden?

One of my favourite past times when I’m feeling in need of a bit of ‘me time’ is to find a sunny spot on the lawn and enjoy a Bonio. I position myself next to the bird table, which always has really good treats on it like nuts and bread. One day I’ll work out how to get on the bird table, until then I’ll look and dream…

What do you like best about artificial grass?

My master used to have a really bad habit of wiping my paws every time I came in from the garden. Personally muddy paws don’t bother me at all in fact it’s quite nice bringing some of the outside smells in. But I don’t seem to get muddy paws any more, so no more wiping and fussing with my feet which is good stuff.

What’s the one thing you would change about your garden?

I would make the bird table lower so I could eat the food left for the birds; sometimes I think even the birds’ look quite tasty.

What’s your favourite smell?

Other dogs and hot dogs (the ones you eat!)
