The exhibition is almost over and if you haven’t had a chance to get down to the Excel Centre you might be interested to know some of the most popular stands, ideas and products we saw over the week. Take a look at some of the key trends we saw…

Best of the Exhibition

Making a splash

There was a big emphasis on water sculptures and features with 3 of the 4 show gardens using water as part of their design. These tree-like water features offer something a bit different to the usual, and create a lovely, trickling sound. If you’re in an urban area this could create a peaceful atmosphere against the constant buzz of the city.

Outdoor eating

There was a lot of furniture on display with high quality rattan being a firm favourite among attendees. Many items were focused around outdoor dining and communal living. This even extended to the hydro pool, with hot tubs surrounded by dinner plates. Just be careful you don’t drop whatever you’re eating!

Luxury play areas

Long gone are the traditional climbing frames and sandboxes, these days it’s all about the luxury kid construction. We saw a fair few different constructions each with their own special character. Whether you want something that looks like a mini house, or something a bit more like the sort of thing a lost boy would live in, there’s something for everyone.

Unusual sculptures

These sculptures by Pangea caught everyone’s attention as they entered the Grand Gardens area. Exquisitely made, with a super metallic shine there’s no denying their boldness. If you want a feature to really draw the eye, as well as give your garden character, choose a large scale sculpture.

What was missing?

Outdoor lighting

Considering it was one of the main trends predicted at the end of last year, there were no dedicated outdoor lighting stands that we could see. Lighting is a key for people who want to be able to use their garden when the sun goes down.

That marks the end of Grand Designs Live for 2016. If you haven’t managed to go, don’t worry there’s always next year! And if you’re looking for even more inspiration why not read our rundown of the show gardens? No artificial grass gardens this year, but there’s plenty of ideas to be had!
