Artificial grass is becoming more popular every year. But with so many products on the market it can be tough to sort fact from fiction. We’ve collected some of the most common misconceptions, take a read if you’d like to find out more…

Common Myths Debunked…

“Your garden has to be square”

How many gardens do you know of that are a perfect square? Almost none! It absolutely is not a requirement that a garden be square, rectangular or have straight edges. Artificial grass can be cut to any shape and installed around all sorts of garden features.

“It only comes in 4m widths”

Artificial grass most commonly comes in 4m widths, but some grasses are also available in 2m widths.

It’s always our aim to limit the amount of wastage on grass, figuring out the best way to accommodate your measurements with the widths available, whilst ensuring it looks its absolute best.

Artificial grass can be cut into all sorts of shapes but we don’t usually recommend mixing pieces from rolls of different widths as they won’t be from the same batch. This can mean there is colour variation in the lawn.

“Artificial grass is too expensive”

There is plenty of fake grass on the market that is cheap, but these products only last a few years and quickly have to be replaced, causing extra cost in the future.

Trulawn only sell high quality grass that looks and feels as realistic as possible, with a no-fade guarantee of at least 8 or 10 years. We calculate installation cost based on a number of factors including size and the level of works required, with a method that ensures it will last for a long time. Whilst there is a typical amount, it can vary from project to project.

If you keep your budget in expectation of quality and longevity, and not just initial cost, you may find it is not always as expensive as you thought!

“Grass is laid directly on the ground”

Nope! It’s a common misconception that all you have to do is slap a bit of artificial grass down and that’s all there is to it. If drainage is a problem for your natural lawn then the ground will soon become saturated with water, become unstable and weeds can pop up underneath. Having an artificial lawn is as much about the installation as the grass! That’s why we install our lawns with a stable draining base underneath, have a read about what it’s made of.

Of course you can also lay artificial grass directly on patio or decking – but make sure it is in good condition before you do so!

“It doesn’t last long”

Again this depends on the type of product you buy and how much you take care of it. Anyone that tells you an artificial lawn requires zero maintenance is unfortunately fibbing, but it doesn’t take a lot. With a professional installation and bit of upkeep an artificial lawn has a life expectancy of about 15-20 years!

Our products alone have a manufacturer’s guarantee of 8 or 10 years against UV fading or rot degradation!
