One of the best ways to compliment a Trulawn is with container plants. Brightly coloured pots and plants can really add warmth and dynamism to a garden and are typically pretty easy to take care of. If you’d like to make sure your plants survive cold weather than we’ve got eight simple tips to bear in mind…
1. Terracotta pots are susceptible to freezing. Non-porous containers such as plastic, concrete or metal are less so!
2. Larger pots with a greater volume of soil will protect the plant better.
3. Plants with established roots will have a better chance of survival in cold weather.
4. If you are able, consider moving your potted plants to frost free locations, be it inside the home, a garage, shed or greenhouse.
5. Wrapping your pots in bubble wrap will insulate the roots, the rest of the plant should be fine uncovered.
6. Consider positioning plants against the side of a wall where it’s warmest, or group them together and insulate the whole lot by wrapping around them.
7. Ensure you buy pots with drainage holes! Soggy roots are unhappy roots.
8. Raise your pots up using pot feet so they don’t sit in a pool of water.
Give your pot plants a little help and they’ll be ready to go back in bloom when Spring comes round. Of course, your Trulawn will stay looking green through every season, but not everything can be that easy!
