QUESTION

Do football clubs use natural or artificial grass?

ANSWER

Artificial pitches in football are far more common than you’d think and several football clubs at various levels use both natural and artificial grass pitches for training. The costs to maintain artificial football pitches can be much lower than sowing, mowing and preparing natural turf so it’s ideal for clubs that may not have the budget for a high level groundsman but still want their teams to be able to play regularly.

Fully artificial turf pitches have been banned in professional English football since 1995, however whilst no Premier League stadiums with artificial turf exist, many use a hybrid pitch combing both natural and artificial turf. This makes the pitch far more resilient, reliable and stable to use throughout the year. The ban is unusual as top professional leagues in many countries European including France, Holland, Scotland and Spain use of artificial grass to improve the usage and versatility of their stadiums. It’s also used in The Champions League and The World Cup.

At Trulawn we supply our own football pitch grass for communities that would like to lower the maintenance, and have a football field available for multiple teams to use on a regular basis. If you’d like to get a quote for an artificial grass football pitch in your local area get in touch for an artificial grass installation quote.
