It’s common among consumers to equate pile length with superiority, with an assumption that the longer the grass, the better the product must be.

But this isn’t necessarily the case. There’s far more to artificial grass then just the length. So how do you explain this to a consumer that knows very little about artificial grass?

Here are three key indicators to point out to consumers when helping them compare products…

Length

The longer the grass, the more maintenance usually required. Whilst all grasses will need a brush up every now and again, the longer grasses will need more regular maintenance to stay upright. If the area is going to have a lot of use, then it might be wiser to choose a shorter grass. Or if you have pets, a longer grass may be more difficult to clean up after. Then again, a longer grass might be good for young children as there is typically more cushion and bounce.

Yarn

Artificial grass is typically made of a couple of different plastics; polyethylene and polypropylene. Polyethylene is slightly more superior in some respects as it has greater ‘bounce back’ ability, which is why it is present in every single one of our grasses. Cheaper grasses made of only polyethylene flatten easily and may not have as long a life span.

Density

The realistic look of today’s artificial grass is down to the density and combination of different coloured blades. Every Trulawn grass contains a ‘thatch’ or ‘root zone’ to give it extra density and reflect the true appearance of grass. This is also helps the grass stay upright and means that it does not need an in-fill. In-fills require replacement which may be a big turn off to consumers.

Bonus tip: If you want to deep dive into density ask your supplier the number of stitches per 1m or the number of tufts per m2

How do our products compare?

Trulawn Luxury

  • 32mm
  • 100% Polyethylene
  • Olive, dark and lime green blend with a tan thatch

Trulawn Luxury is not our longest grass (our range varies from 22mm – 40mm) but it is our top product because it is something of a ‘goldilocks’ grass. Not too short, not too long, and made with 100% polyethylene which means it has greater ability to pop back up after flattening. This makes it ideal for a communal area and domestic gardens, which is a win win!
