Did you know that every year the Queen holds garden parties at Buckingham Palace and Holyroodhouse? Up to 8000 guests are invited on to the grounds to speak to the Queen and munch on palace catering.

Though the chances of you or I being invited are fairly small it doesn’t mean you can’t have a garden party fit for a queen. Artificial grass is great for hosting parties, there’s no danger of heels sinking, muddy trails or your lawn wearing thin! Here are our top tips for throwing the perfect English Garden Party on your brand new Trulawn.

Tea and Sandwiches

These are an absolute must. There is nothing more English than tea and nothing more satisfying than a triangle shaped sandwich. If you’re going strictly traditional cucumber filling is the way but otherwise ham, cheese, prawn or all firm favourites. When the tea runs out start serving pimms and have yourself a sweet snack with some homemade cupcakes.

Decorations

Vintage style bunting always brightens up a garden party and is super easy to make. All you need is paper or old cloth, string and some staples. Go for a floral pattern for that kitschy vibe or union jacks if you’re feeling particularly patriotic. These are a great way to get the kids involved, why not have them design a unique pattern? Or maybe recycle some old tea towels?

Entertainment

You could go refined and elegant with some classical music accompaniments but the Queen isn’t actually on the guest list. Maybe evoke the spirit of her coronation and play some classic fifties music or some vintage swing. Set up a game of cricket if you’ve got the room otherwise boules or croquet are always winners.

After party

Garden parties don’t have to stop when the sun goes down but make sure you have some blankets ready for when it gets chilly. Tea lights can be a bit of fire hazard so why not hang some lanterns up around the trees or along fencing, you want your guests to be able to see each other!

So there you have it, how to have a garden party fit for a queen. At Trulawn we’re all about spending time enjoying your garden not slaving over its upkeep. So get cracking on those sandwiches, there’s a party to be had!
