At Trulawn we think gardens should be more about play and less about work. When the sun shines we want to make the most it and enjoy our gardens instead of rushing around with a lawn mower or worrying about scorched, patchy grass.
On sunny days (when we’re not working) we like to get out in the garden sit back, relax on our perfect artificial grass and catch some rays. But as most of us at Trulawn have children the relaxing part doesn’t often happen! The good thing is that also means we know a thing or two about garden games. So we’ve put our heads together and come up with our top five garden games…
Space hopper races:
Forget expensive garden games all you need is a space hopper, an agreed hop route round the garden and a stopwatch. It’s not just for kids – get everyone involved, but be warned children can bounce for hours and will win every time.
Giant paddling pool:
Why settle for an average sized paddling pool when you can super size your pool? Ritchie has just invested in a 12ft diameter, 3ft deep pool (more swimming pool than paddling pool!). It’s the ultimate in splash fun and a great way to enjoy the current heat wave. The sides are solid too so it’s not easy to puncture and it has a ladder to get in and out of it easily. Fancy a swim anyone?
Swingball:
Since Andy Murray’s heroics at this year’s Wimbledon sales of Swingball have soared by 600% and this classic British garden game is making a comeback. We recommend hosting your own mini Wimbledon tournament. All you need is a Swingball set which you can pick up quite cheaply, a jug Pimms and don’t forget the strawberries and cream. If you do already have artificial grass then you won’t have to worry about moving the swingball around to prevent the grass underneath from dying – the benefits truly are never ending!
Sprinkler fun:
Most people buy sprinklers to keep their lawns looking lush during a hot spurt, but we use them purely for the fun factor. Try setting up a sprinkler obstacle course that requires everyone to jump over the sprinkler, crawl through the sprinkler, and run through the sprinkler. Get involved and get soaked – it’s a great way to cool down when temperatures in the garden are pushing 30 °C.
Cereal packet game:
If you haven’t played this one before give it a go… literally hours of fun and all you need is an empty cereal packet and at least 3 people. First everyone needs to stand in a circle. You put the cereal box upright in the middle. Then you take turns to lift the cereal box off the floor with your mouth. Here are the rules: Your hands must not touch the box or the floor – keep them behind your back. Knees must not touch the floor either. Those unable to lift the box are out of the game. In the second round, tear off one inch off the top of the box to make it shorter. Carry on tearing off an inch of the box after each round. A great game that anyone can play but be warned you may ache a bit the next day!
