With the Easter bank holiday this weekend we’ve got five top tips for throwing an egg hunt at home. Egg hunts are the perfect way to occupy the kids and get creative outdoors as well as a sure fire way to have an eggs-cellent time this April.
- Work together in teams and get the whole family involved. Pair up little ones with adults or older kids by inviting the rest of the family and make it a special occasion. Sometimes it’s fun to sit back and let the kids do all the work, but this way there’s more chance of you getting a bite of the chocolate action.
- Have a set number to find so everyone gets an equal share. Creating a race to find them all can be overwhelming for small children so have a designated base to return to once they find a certain number. This way the hunt can remain fair and reduces the odds of chocolate related overindulgence.
- Get creative in your hiding places. Depending on how big your garden is, whether you have a shed, or how many plants you have, there are lots of ways to make an egg hunt interesting. Hiding eggs in trees is always a sneaky way of catching out the kids, and a great way for teams of kids and adults to work together. Always remember safety first!
- Create clues or draw a map. To make your hunt truly eggs-traordinary create clues that are riddles or rhymes or draw a map that leads to buried treasure. Maybe include some false trails, or hidden eggs for added amusement.
- Chocolate alternatives. If you’re worried about the kids having too much chocolate set up a painting table before or after the hunt and decorate hard-boiled or ‘blown out’ eggs with faces or patterns. Googly eyes are always popular!
