Last week we swapped plain old carpet for fake grass in one lucky boy’s bedroom – turning it from standard into the stuff of football stadium dreams! This is slightly out of the ordinary for us, our normal turf being gardens, and this got me thinking of all the other strange places you can find fake grass…
The big, green, hairy Trulawn bus immediately sprang to mind … yes we love the green stuff so much we covered a whole bus in it! And we’ll be touring the country over the summer to spread the joys of fake grass to all and sundry.
And if while out shopping in Camberley you fancy a sit down – it’s likely you’ll find a grass covered bench to sit on. We have positioned them throughout The Atrium shopping centre, so you can just sit and watch the world go by. I’m sure you’ll agree fake grass is surprisingly comfy to sit on…soon we’ll be demanding sofas covered in the stuff.
On a rare night out I recently spotted a nice artificial lawn area in trendy London bar, Barrio Central, complete with deck chairs and a huge Rubix cube table. By bringing a touch of the outside in the bar created a friendly and relaxed atmosphere in the heart of stressed out Soho.
It’s even making an appearance in one of the Cotswold’s most renowned beauty spots, Bourton-on-the-Water, because the normal grass isn’t coping under the constant stampede of tourists.
Believe it or not some people collect it…
Marlene Little from Birmingham is obsessed with fake grass and travels the world collecting it. As well as being a course director for BA honours textiles design at Birmingham City University, she’s a self confessed artificial grass addict and even covers the walls of her home in it. In fact she has around 35 square metres of the stuff.
This unusual hobby started on a trip to Australia when Marlene spotted some artificial grass in a bargain shop. Her collection now acts as a record of all the places she’s travelled to around the world. According to Marlene, now she has got her eyes peeled for it, she sees it everywhere she goes.
So the hunt is on to try and spot artificial grass in strange places… watch this space. And if you happen across a patch somewhere unlikely be sure to snap it and share it.
