The weather in Britain is notoriously wet, with April being a particularly rainy month. With a waterlogged lawn, grass can become, boggy, muddy and mossy – hardly what you want for your garden going into spring. The good thing is there is a solution: artificial grass. There are three reasons that artificial grass is great for lawns in the UK that suffer due to bad drainage.
1. Installation of a stable, draining base.
Water collects on the surface of a natural lawn usually because the soil has a high clay content or because the soil is too compact. Without aeration the water cannot permeate into the ground below, and so becomes waterlogged. Instead of replacing the topsoil, re-seeding your lawn, buying turf or aerating the lawn (processes you may have to keep repeating), install a fake lawn. Permeable layers of limestone aggregate and grano dust are installed below the grass to ensure that water can drain away effectively from the surface.
2. The fake grass has a permeable backing.
You may be thinking, how does the water travel through the grass into the base below? There are actually many small holes across the backing of the grass which allows water to pass through. These holes aren’t visible when looking through the tufts, so you can’t even tell they’re there!
3. The grass will stay green and lush.
Water doesn’t affect the growth of fake grass, because it’s fake! That means you don’t have dead patches, large mossy patches, or areas of poor coverage. Which is great if you’re fed up of mud being traipsed into the house by your furry friends or your children. Artificial grass is always green and even, all year round.
So there you have it. The top three reasons that artificial grass can make a difference to a waterlogged garden. With fake grass you can have a healthy looking lawn 365 days a year.
