Bulbs are great because they can be planted almost anywhere, in beds, borders and containers and take very little effort to grow!

A flowerbed full of flowers, or a few choice plant pots can really compliment an artificial lawn, enhancing the natural look whilst giving it extra vibrancy. As it’s bulb planting season, we’ve got some top tips for you to get some flora in your life come spring and summer.

1. Plant your bulbs as soon as you can, don’t leave them hanging around to dry out.

2. Clear away any weeds or dead flowers from the area you want to plant in.

3. Plant in groups of at least 6 for beds and borders. The general rule is the more the merrier!

4. If you’re planting in a container, up to 12 in a 12 inch container.

5. Plant double the length of the bulb into the soil, with the shoot or ‘pointy end’ facing upwards.

6. Avoid treading on the area by you or your pets.

7. Try not to let the soil dry out.

8. Watch out for pests like slugs and snails (and squirrels!) Avoid spreading salt because it’s bad for the soil, but coffee granules are a known deterrent, as are using crushed eggshells to form a barrier. Otherwise pick them up and distribute them somewhere far, far away.

9. You can add feed when the shoots appear to give them a bit of oomph.

10. If you’re expecting a ‘second wave’ make sure to get rid of the dying stems and flowers of the old ones, it can look pretty messy otherwise.

If you’re interested in getting artificial lawn but are worried about sacrificing your flower beds – don’t worry, you can have the best of both worlds! Fake grass can be installed around beds or be cut into a shape for beds to be created. If you arrange a site visit with us you can talk to your surveyor about the layout of your garden, and whether you want to reserve an area for growing plants.
